Excalibur turns Poker Room electronic

Las Vegas Excalibur

Popular Las Vegas casino, Excalibur, is now the first poker room in the ‘city of sin’ to offer a fully electronic poker room.

Beta testing, which began back in August of this year, of the PokerPro tables has been a success. Players have no chips to play with, no cards to shuffle and no dealer to berate!

Excalibur officials have announced the testing as a great success with nine of out of every ten players enjoying the experience.

Ed Peterson, Excalibur’s Poker Performance Manager, commented; “I think that if other casinos want to offer poker inexpensively, then they will have to consider it.”

One benefit of the electronic poker table is the lack of pressure to leave a dealer tip. The machine works 24 hours a day, requires no salary, no pension or health cover and, of course, no tip each time it deals a winning hand. Las Vegas dealers are, naturally, worried that their jobs will soon be on the line to the electronic machine which can deal many more hands per hour than the human equivalent.

Regular players, that have been testing the machines over the last three months, noted that other benefits include; never having to count your chip stack and players can never act out of turn.

The new machines are certain to appeal to online poker players who enjoy the speed of the Internet game. Petersen hasn’t noticed a change in the Excalibur clientele, though, saying; “We’re still getting the typical Excalibur customer. We haven’t turned into the Hard Rock overnight.”

The PokerPro tables are available in casinos in Europe, Australia, South Africa, Japan, and Canada, as well as seven states in the U.S. Las Vegas casinos look set to be the next target for PokerTek’s electronic table and, following the conclusion of the recent WSOP won by Peter Eastgate, many are predicting the electronic table could be a fixture at The Rio one day.
