Gwinner Grabs Chip Lead at APPT Macau

Henrik Gwinner from Denmark stacked up a field-leading 140,700 in chips to end the day atop the leaderboard. Gwinner has amassed over USD $750,000 in tournament winnings dating back to 2003. Gwinner finished 9th at the 2008 EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo (€ 126,000).

Hot on Gwinner’s tail is David Steicke of Hong Kong, who bagged 124,950 in chips. Steicke, China’s all-time leading money winner, has a remarkable track record in Macau. Prior to APPT Season 4, Steicke had cashed in every Macau High Roller Event since the tournament’s inception in 2007 (3rd – 2007, 5th – 2008, 1st – 2009). Steicke was eliminated from this year’s High Roller Event on Day 1.

Team PokerStars’ lone representative on Day 1b was Aussie pro Eric Assadourian, who finished the day relatively short-stacked with 14,575 in chips.

Other notable Day 1b survivors include Emanuel Seal of Australia (60,150), Andrew Scott of Hong Kong (14,350) and PokerStars sponsored player Neil Arce of the Philippines (13,600).

Noteworthy casualties from Day 1b include John ‘The Razor’ Phan, J.C. Tran, Terrence Chan and Tom Hall.

The third and final Day 1 flight of the APPT Macau Main Event is scheduled for Thursday, May 20th at 12:15 p.m. local time (GMT+8).
