The second Epic Poker League Main Event has reached its final table after two long days of poker. A rather disappointing crowd of just 97 poker players turned out at the Palms casino but there is still a massive $782,410 for the winner thanks to the money added to the prizepool by the tournament’s organisers.
Leading the way going into the eight handed final table is David Steicke, a Hong Kong based professional poker player who has more than $2,100,000 in live tournament winnings. His results in live events have earned Steicke a “2 Year B” pass to the Epic Poker League. Although a rather unspectacular player, Steicke is very capable and extremely consistent but whether he has what it takes to outplay some of the other players who have made the final table alongside hime remains to be seen. Having 1,059,000 chips (606,250 is the average) will help his cause though.
Only one other player has passed the one million chip barrier and that is Erik Seidel on 1,031,000. Seidel needs no introduction at all, as the eight-time WSOP bracelet winner is in the form of his life. In 2011 alone he has won $6,261,068 taking his lifetime winnings in live tournaments to a staggering $16,616,082! Seidel just cannot seem to put a foot wrong of late and he would be a betting man’s favourite to win when play restarts on Friday.
Making up the rest of the final table are some very talented players indeed. Starting Day 3 in third place is Isaac Baron, an online superstar who seems to be concentrating more on live poker since “Black Friday,” Fabrice Soulier, Dutch Boyd, Nam Le, Sean Getzwiller and Mike “Timex” McDonald who is another online star.
Eighth place is worth $46,020 but none of the players will be wanting to take home that amount, especially when there is $782,410 on top and of course league points at stake that can be used to enter a $1,000,000 freeroll at the end of the season.
