David “The Knight” Sesso Slays Opposition

WSOP Circuit - Chicago - Event 6 winner, David SessoEvent 5 of the WSOP Circuit Season 6, Chicago saw 635 players enter with a chance of scooping a portion of the $179,585 prize pool. The buy in was $300 (+$45) and of those competing, the top 63 would finish in the money.

Day 1 saw the field fall from 635 to around 50 as many tried to make moves early, got unlucky, caught out with nothing or simply played poorly. Day 2 began the following day at 2pm and after four hours of play we were down to our final table. Going into the final table the only previous ring winner was Jean “Prince” Gaspard, winner of last years New Orleans Main Event.

The chip leader going into the final nine was David “The Knight” Sesso who held 1.7 million as he sat back down. Gaspard was his closest rival but as the game went on he became card dead and left in fifth place collecting $8,324 for his work. Gaspard now has 8 WSOP cash finishes and 3 WSOP Circuit finishes in his career.

When it finally got to heads up play Sesso held a 5 to 1 chip lead over opponent Bob Grim and using the same aggressive tactics that had got him this far it only took Sesso 10 minutes to finish off Grim. The final hand saw Grim go all-in pre-flop with A 6 and with Sesso holding A Q he was quick to call. No help came on the board and The Knights high cards won him the top prize of $40,392. Bob Grim collected $24,962 for his second place finish.

David “The Knight” Sesso is a professional poker player from Illinois who got his nickname after working for a Medieval themed restaurant as a Knight. He started playing poker at work and decided to become pro after he injured himself while sword fighting during a show. He mostly plays online and this is only his fifth live tournament. His sixth will be the WSOP Circuit, Chicago Main Event which he gained entry to as part of his winners package along with the prize money and gold circuit ring.

With six events now completed entries are up 18% from last year with 3,021 people entering tournaments so far. The total prize money received is also up 13.5% with $1,137,999 being awarded to players so far.
